Meet Glenn Goldstein PE, PMP, PMI-RMP

Glenn Goldstein PE, PMP, PMI-RMP
Foresight Planning and Engineering Services Risk Management Technical Director

The ASCE Texas Section Board of Direction members were asked to fill out a questionnaire so that the Section’s members might get to know them a little better on a personal level. These are Treasurer Glenn Goldstein’s answers.

When did you first get involved with ASCE at any level (student chapter, local branch, section)?

I was introduced to ASCE during my sophomore year of college – I couldn’t turn down the offer of free pizza for attending student chapter meetings. My involvement ramped up after hearing about the student steel bridge competition and I joined the team during my junior year

What is your favorite thing about ASCE?

My favorite aspect of ASCE is the opportunity for leadership development. ASCE sponsors a robust leadership development program that focuses on communication and strategic thinking for aspiring leaders. Volunteering in leadership positions at the branch and section levels has taught me to embrace challenges, provided me with a network to seek feedback from other supportive professionals, and helped me to overcome my fear of public speaking.

Give us three words to describe what a civil engineer does

Analyze, collaborate, envision.

When did you know you wanted to be a civil engineer?

I’ve always had a love of buildings and bridges and growing up thought I would pursue architecture. During my junior year of high school, I recall my older brother (then a junior in college) asking me what I wanted to do. After a brief talk, he pointed out to me that my interest was not so much in the look and feel of structures but how they work. I had never heard of structural engineering and after some research realized that was the fit for me

What is your go-to calculator?

I may crunch some quick math using the calculator on my phone but for everything else it’s going to be Excel.

What is your favorite band?

Always tough to nail down one and depends on the activity or mood. My go-to’s are Zero 7, Thievery Corporation and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong.

Mountains or beach?

Growing up in South Florida and being in the water any chance I can, it’s gotta be beach.

Give us your best (clean) joke!

How do you know if there’s a dinosaur in your refrigerator? The door won’t close. (Best told by a 6-year-old).
