Well, you are in luck! Below, you will find short interviews with 18 of the Texas Section’s most successful leaders. We hope they provide a glimpse into the life of Texas Section members throughout the years and from various points of view.

Allen Bud Beene PE

Texas Section President | 2002-03

Allen “Bud” Beene PE served as ASCE Texas Section President in 2003. He has served as a member and as Chair of several Texas Section committees for many years. He also served as District 15 Director from 2005-2008, and as President of the Texas Civil Engineering Foundation from 2008-2014. He was awarded the Texas Section Professional Service Award in 1998, and the Award of Honor in 2009.

Harry Coyle PhD PE

Texas Section President | 1980-81

Harry Coyle PhD PE served as ASCE Texas Section President in 1982. He also served as President of the Brazos Branch and as Texas Section VP-Technical. He served for several years on Texas Section committees and on the Texas Civil Engineering Foundation.

David E. Daniel PhD

Honorary Member (Distinguished Member)

David E. Daniel PhD earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin. He has worked as a Staff Engineer at Woodward-Clyde Consultants, a civil engineering Professor at UT Austin, as Head of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the current President of The University of Texas at Dallas. He received the ASCE Norman Medal in 1975, the Middlebrooks and Richard R. Torrens Awards in 1995, the J. James Croes Medal in 1984, and in 2000, the President’s Award in 2007, and the Hero’s Award (GeoInstitute) in 2008. He was recognized as an Honorary Member of ASCE in 2007.

Daniel B. Hartman PE

Texas Section President | 2005-06

Daniel B. Hartman PE served as ASCE Texas Section President in 2006. He has also been an active member of the Ft. Worth Branch for many years, served as chair of several Texas Section committees, and as a Trustee for the J. Walter Porter Memorial Fund. He received the Professional Service Award in 2005.

Richard Kistner PE

Texas Section President | 1981-82

Richard Kistner PE served as ASCE Texas Section President in 1982. He has also served on numerous Texas Section committees and as Trustee, Vice President of Administration, and President of the Texas Civil Engineering Foundation for several years.

D. Wayne Klotz PE

Texas Section President | 1991-92

Wayne Klotz PE served as ASCE Texas Section President from 1991-1992. He has also served on the ASCE Region 6 Board of Governors, as Chair of the John B. Hawley Memorial Fund, Director of District 15, Chair of the ASCE Committee on Employment Conditions, Chair of the ASCE State Government Relations Committee, and as ASCE President from 2008-2009. He received the Award of Honor in 1994, and the John A. Focht Jr. Citizen Engineer Award in 2004.

Ron Lemons PE

Texas Section President | 1999-2000

Ron Lemons PE served as Texas Section President in 2000. He has been an active member of the Fort Worth Branch and served as Chair of several Texas Section committees and the District 15 Council. He also served for several years as Vice President of Programs for the Texas Civil Engineering Foundation.

Joe Minor PE

Texas Section President | 1984-85

Joe Minor PE served as ASCE Texas Section President in 1985. He has served as Trustee and VP of Finance for the Texas Civil Engineering Foundation. He received the Texas Section Award of Honor in 2003 and Lifetime Service Award in 2018. Joe was promoted to ASCE Distinguished Member grade in 2018.

Joe Nall PE

Texas Section President | 1983-84

Joe Nall PE served as ASCE Texas Section President in 1984. He also served as Chair of the Texas Section Government Relations Committee. He received the Service to People Award in 1992, and the Award of Honor in 1996.

Ken A. Rainwater PhD PE

Texas Section President | 2006-07

Dr. Rainwater served as ASCE Texas Section President in 2007. He has also served on the Region 6 Board of Governors, as ASCE Texas Section VP-Education, Chair and member of several Texas Section Committees, ASCE Student Chapter Faculty Advisor at Texas Tech, and as Caprock Branch Treasurer and President. He is a recipient of the Texas Section Professional Service to Students Award (2001).

Jose M. Roesset PhD, PE

Honorary Member (Distinguished Member)

Dr. Jose Roesset has served as Secretary and member of the ASCE Executive Committee, and Chair of both the Dynamics Committee and the Programs Committee for the ASCE Engineering Mechanics Division. He is a recipient of the IIE Fellowship (Fullbright), Texas Excellence Teaching Award, and the Eduardo Torroja Gold Medal of the Spanish National Council of Scientific Research. He was awarded ASCE honorary membership in 1998.

Jerry R. Rogers PhD, PE

Texas Section President | 1988-89

Jerry R. Rogers PhD, PE served as Texas Section President in 1989. He has also served as a member of the Texas Civil Engineering Foundation Executive Committee, the Texas Section History and Heritage Committee, and the Centennial Planning Committee. He received the Professional Service Award in 1979, the Award of Honor in 1992, the History and Heritage Award in 1994, the Lifetime Service Award in 2008, and the John A. Focht Jr. Citizen Engineer Award in 2013.

Albert W. Rollins PE

Honorary Member (Distinguished Member)

Albert W. Rollins PE earned a BSCE from Texas A&M in 1951, and an MSCE in 1956. He has worked for the U.S. Army as a combat engineer, during which he served in the 40th U.S. Infantry Division in Korea during the Korean War. He has also worked for the Texas Highway Department District 18 in Dallas, as a city engineer for the city of Arlington. He served as city engineer, director of public works, and director of utilities, and was appointed city manager of Arlington in 1963. After resigning from city management for Arlington, he partnered with Gene Schrickel to form Schrickel, Rollins and Associates, a design firm offering civil engineering, landscape architecture, and planning services. Mr. Rollins became an ASCE Fellow in 1970 and an Honorary Member in 1990. He received the Texas Section Award of Honor in 2002.

Stanley J. Sarman PE

Texas Section President | 1994-95

Stanley J. Sarman PE served as ASCE Texas Section President in 1995. He has also served as VP of Administration for the Texas Civil Engineering Foundation and has been an active member of several Texas Section committees for many years. He received the Professional Service Award in 1984, the Award of Honor in 1998, and the John A. Focht Jr. Citizen Engineer Award in 2009.

David M. Schnurbusch PE

Texas Section President | 1997-98

David M. Schnurbusch PE served as Texas Section President in 1998. He has also served as Chair of the Texas Section Nominating Committee, Chair and Trustee of the John B. Hawley Memorial Fund, founding President, Trustee, and Member of the Executive Committee of the Texas Civil Engineering Foundation, Chair of the Region 6 Board of Governors, and member of the ASCE Board of Direction for Region 6. He was awarded the Professional Service Award in 1997 and Award of Honor in 2003.

H. Douglas Steadman PE

Texas Section President | 1991-92

H. Douglas Steadman PE served as ASCE Texas Section President in 1992. He has served on the Texas Section History and Heritage Committee; he has also been an active member of the San Antonio Branch for many years, serving on several branch committees. He received the Texas Section Professional Service Award in 1991, the Award of Honor in 1996, the Lifetime Service Award in 2002, the History and Heritage Award in 2006, and the John A. Focht Jr. Citizen Engineer Award in 2011.

Malcolm L. Steinberg PE

Texas Section President | 1987-88

Malcolm Steinberg served as Texas Section President in 1988. He has also served as member/chair on several Texas Section Committees including the History and Heritage Committee. He was awarded the Professional Service Award in 1981, the History and Heritage Award in 1990, and the Award of Honor in 2000.

C. Michael Walton PhD, PE

Distinguished Member

C. Michael Walton PhD, PE earned his BSCE at Virginia Military institute in 1963, and his MCE and PhD from North Carolina State University. He has served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, worked with the North Carolina Highway Commission and the Office of the Secretary of Transportation, U.S. Department of Transportation in Washington D.C. Walton has been a faculty member of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Texas Austin since 1971, and Chaired the Department from 1988-96. He is the Recipient of the following ASCE Awards: Harland Bartholomew Award (1987), Frank M. Masters Transportation Engineering Award (1987), James Laurie Prize (1992), Wilbur S. Smith Distinguished Transportation Educator Awards (1996), Frances C. Turner Lecture (1999), OPAL Award (2005), and the Presidents’ Award (2013). He was recognized as a Distinguished Member in 2008.
