Award Nominations

Each year, the Texas Section presents awards to deserving individuals in the Section or the community—nominated by their peers in recognition of their service. You can select a coworker, friend, or colleague you think deserves special recognition.

To submit a nomination, complete this form with a brief statement of the nominee’s qualifications. The deadline for nominations is May 15, 2024.

The Honors Committee will review all nominations and present a list of the qualified candidates to the Board of Direction for selection. Unless otherwise indicated, awards are presented yearly at the Texas Civil Engineering Conference (CECON).

Award of Honor

Nominate

The Award of Honor was established by the Texas Section – ASCE to be presented to a limited number of members of the Texas Section “in recognition of service to the Texas Section and outstanding professional achievement in civil engineering.”

Professional Service Award

Nominate

This award is conferred on a subscribing member of the Texas Section for meritorious service to the Texas Section and to one or more of the Section’s Branches upon recommendations of the Honors Committee.

History and Heritage Award

Nominate

This award is presented to an individual (not necessarily a member of the Texas Section) or Branch for making special contributions to recording and/or recognizing the history and heritage of civil engineering in Texas.

Service to People Award

Nominate

This award is presented to a civil engineer (not necessarily a member of the Texas Section) who has distinguished himself or herself with special service to people. The award is intended to recognize civil engineers who bring credit to their profession through community activities that are visible to the general public.

Professional Service to Students Award

Nominate

This Award was established by the Texas Section Board of Directors in October 1999. It is conferred on a subscribing member of the Texas Section for meritorious service to the Texas Section through service to one or more of the Texas/Mexico Regional Conference’s Student Chapters (Clubs).

Government Civil Engineer Award

Nominate

This award is conferred on a subscribing member of the Texas Section employed by a governmental organization for meritorious service to the Texas Section and to one or more of the Section’s Branches.

John A. Focht, Jr. Citizen Engineer Award

Nominate

This Award was established by the Texas Section Board of Directors on October 11, 1990 to recognize John A. Focht, Jr.’s outstanding and continued dedication to the Texas Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Mr. Focht has served as Section Past President and Board Member, ASCE District Director, and Vice President and President of National ASCE. He originated the concept of encouraging members to become better citizen engineers.

Young Civil Engineer Award

Nominate

The Young Civil Engineer Award is conferred to a subscribing member of ASCE by the Texas Section to recognize an individual’s professional contributions of Younger Members through their Section, Section Institute Chapter(s), or Section Branch(es) upon recommendations of the Honors Committee. This recognition may be awarded not more than annually to members of the Texas Section who are 35 years of age or younger on the annual award deadline in the year the award is granted. Age is based on time of nomination deadline. Candidates for the Young Civil Engineer Award must demonstrate significant professional achievement, assessed through their: • Contributions to advancing the engineering profession. • Technical competence, exemplary character, and integrity. • Leadership in guiding younger members. • Contributions to public service beyond their career. • Other meritorious evidence recognized by the Honors Committee. Outstanding Civil Engineering Student Award

Nominate

This award is given to ASCE Texas Section student member(s) each year who is/are: • enrolled in an ABET-accredited civil engineering program in the State of Texas; • in good standing with their college/university; and • a current, registered student member of ASCE. Submissions must include the attached Nomination Form as the cover page, including the nominee’s signature. Letters of Support Each nomination requires at least two (2) letters of recommendation. At least one from the Department Chair, professor, or ASCE faculty or practitioner advisor. The second shall be from a professional civil engineering position or activity manager, an ASCE member is preferred. See above for PDF Nomination Form to be included.
