This webinar covers geotechnical design and construction challenges encountered on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) crossing the Trinity River in Fort Worth. TRE offers premier commuter rail service between Fort Worth and Dallas. The section between I-35W and Sylvania Avenue in Fort Worth has been a single-track section, which crosses the Trinity River on a narrow 764-foot-long bridge that was constructed in 1903. This section is used not only by TRE commuter trains, but also Amtrak, Union Pacific, and BNSF freight trains.

Due to the age of the bridge, it requires frequent inspection, monitoring, and maintenance and reduced speeds and stops for freight trains, causing delays to passenger trains. To resolve the issues, TRE needed to rehabilitate the existing historic Trinity River Bridge and add a second track as part of this project.

Some of his volunteer work with ASCE includes presenting to high school students about being a civil engineer, engaging kids in engineering activities at the Children Museum with the Austin Branch and the Perot Museum with the Dallas Branch, helping with supplies at the Food Bank, judging projects at Future City Competitions, and maintaining clean highways through TxDOT’s “Adopt a Highway” program.

Mr. Faraj has been a Texas resident for the last 20 years.  He lives in Frisco and he is married to Lina Abi Mosleh, who is a molecular genetics scientist.  They have 3 beautiful daughters, and he wishes at least one of them will become a Civil Engineer! He enjoys building things, golfing, having family movie nights, and going on adventure rides with the family at Disney World!
