CECON 2021 Program Update

PDH

Jennifer Bohlander PE CECON Planning Committee Co-Chair

The in-person, 2021 Texas Civil Engineering Conference (CECON) is only a few weeks away! Online registration is still open for conference attendees at www.TexasCECON.org. Don’t forget to also order a one-of-a-kind polo shirt to elevate your experience!

The key focus of this year’s conference, taking place September 15-17 in San Marcos, is Civil Engineering: Laying the Foundations of Sustainability. With that theme in mind, the speakers and topics for the conference have been decided and set by the Programs Committee. The 3-day, jam packed program is posted on the Texas CECON website under the Program tab, featuring speaker bios & session descriptions. We are also offering a fantastic lineup of panel discussions that you do not want to miss, including an AGC-ASCE Panel, TxDOT Town Hall, Legislative Panel, and Infrastructure Report Card Panel.

We welcome Adam Payne PE, CCM and Steve Long PE as our Wednesday Keynote speakers giving us an exciting virtual tour and overview of the $1.6B Bois d’Arc Lake Program. We also welcome back Carlos Betha PhD for an engaging discussion during the Ethics Breakfast: Developing Your Moral (or is it “Ethical”?) Vocabulary (This session qualifies for 1 ethics PDH). The Thursday Keynote speaker will be finalized and details added soon.

There are several valuable opportunities available this year for both sponsors and exhibitors. Registration for both is still open on the website.

Join us at a BBQ, hosted by TCPA taking place at the Wonder World Cave and Adventure Park on Wednesday! With attendee registration, this is a free event for families and children.

The Younger Members (YM) Committee has decided on an Earth, Wind, Water & Fire theme for the Thursday Awards Ceremony & Gala. Details are almost all complete for this event. The YM Committee is also working very hard to organize the accommodation of a Technical Tour on Friday afternoon. Updates will be posted to the website as details are finalized.

The ASCE Texas Section is continuing to coordinate with the CECON Planning Committee and the ASCE Texas Institute Chapters to bring great breakout sessions, speakers, and attendees to CECON 2021. The 2021 CECON Planning Committee would like to thank everyone involved for their continued support of the annual TexASCE flagship conference!
