Successful civil engineering careers are built on more than technical expertise; they require intentional professional development and effective mentorship. This webinar explores how mentorship and continuous learning help engineers build confidence, leadership capability, and long-term career resilience.
The session will share practical strategies for identifying mentors, developing productive mentor–mentee relationships, and leveraging professional organizations such as ASCE for career growth. Topics include navigating early-career challenges, strengthening leadership and communication skills, managing career transitions, and contributing back to the profession through mentorship.
Based on real-world engineering leadership experience and active involvement in ASCE mentorship programs, this presentation offers actionable insights attendees can apply immediately to support professional growth and long-term success.
Speaker: Akshay Dumbre

Akshay Vilas Dumbre PE, PMP, M.ASCE is a Senior Civil Engineering Project Manager based in Houston, Texas, with over 10 years of experience delivering complex land and site development projects across Texas. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and certified Project Management Professional (PMP), with recognized expertise in stormwater management, hydrology and hydraulic modeling, civil infrastructure design, permitting, and regulatory compliance.
Mr. Dumbre has served as Engineer of Record on commercial, residential, and public works projects, providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams and overseeing design, permitting, and construction coordination. His work has contributed to improved constructability, cost efficiency, and long-term infrastructure performance on projects subject to stringent regulatory and technical standards.
Beyond his engineering practice, Mr. Dumbre demonstrates sustained professional leadership through the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), where he serves as Mentor Program Co-Chair for the Houston Branch, guiding early-career engineers and supporting professional development initiatives within the civil engineering community. His contributions reflect a continued commitment to advancing engineering practice, leadership development, and mentorship at a professional-society level.
