Student Symposium Combines Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe Competition into One Event

WHO:              The Texas Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers

WHAT:            ASCE Texas Section has re-engineered its Student Symposium to foster close association between engineering professionals and university students. Beginning in 2016, the Symposium combines the two student design-build competitions, steel bridge and concrete canoe, at one event. The event will host over 500 students from across Texas and Mexico, where they will compete as ASCE Student Chapter teams to engineer and build steel bridges and concrete canoes. Visit to learn more.

WHEN:           April 7-9, 2016

WHERE:        United Supermarkets Arena (steel bridge competition, canoe display, and career fair)

1701 Indiana Ave | MS 42200
Lubbock, TX 79409

Buffalo Springs Lake (concrete canoe races)

9999 High Meadow Road

Lubbock TX 79404

WHY:              Students, whether they are contestants or soon-to-graduate, will have the opportunity to compete as teams and attend a series of soft-skill seminars to prepare them for their new careers. The students will learn how to create an excellent resume, interview for a job, plan for their future careers, and how to network. A Texas-wide career fair will give them the opportunity to put this specific learning into play at the Symposium, and employers will have access to exceptional students.
