Feb. President’s Message – Dallas Hosts Engaging MRLC

Feb. President’s Message – Dallas Hosts Engaging MRLC

Art Clendenin PEI have just returned from the ASCE Multi-Region Leadership Conference (MRLC), which was hosted this past weekend by the Dallas Branch. This was my third MRLC to attend, and it was by far the best one!  Our Texas Branches & Student Chapters were well represented and made the 600 guests from the heart of the country feel more than welcome.  Three days of team building and networking activities provided participants with leadership skills that can be implemented upon return to work immediately!  I am especially proud to announce that during an Award Ceremony, the Houston Branch won the “Outstanding Section & Branch Website Award” and the Dallas Branch won the “Outstanding Section & Branch Award” and received its ASCE History & Heritage Citation for the Red Courthouse Centennial Plaque Dedication.  Kudos to both branches who have worked tirelessly to bring home the hardware! (Meanwhile, the Texans and the Cowboys just keep coming up short!)

I am pleased to report that many of the branches and university student chapters will be busy during Engineer’s Week with mentoring and celebrations that honor the engineering profession and teach others about what we do.  Please use your scouting skills and “always be prepared” (not just during E-Week) to inform others what roles civil engineers have in community development and beyond.

The Legislative Drive-In is booked solid!  We have 55 members (plus a waiting list) slated to spread our message at the Capitol on February 26th.  I will report on that next month.  We are excited that we have doubled our participation from two years ago.

Invest in yourself and participate in your local Branch’s activities.

Art Clendenin, PE

Texas Section President (105th) 2018-2019
