Meet Tiffany Villareal PE, ENV SP, M. ASCE, President, InfraTex Consulting

The ASCE Texas Section Board of Direction members were asked to fill out a questionnaire so that the Section’s members might get to know them a little better on a personal level. These are VP for Professional Affairs Tiffany Villareal PE, ENV SP, M. ASCE’s answers.

When did you first get involved with ASCE at any level (student chapter, local branch, section)?

I first became involved with ASCE as a student at the University of Texas at Austin.

What is your favorite thing about ASCE?

The people! ASCE is my professional family.

How has ASCE helped you in your career?

ASCE has aided my professional advancement by helping me remain visible. Volunteering with ASCE also gives me the opportunity  to learn from other skilled professionals while practicing valuable leadership skills. Serving on the ASCE Texas Board helps keep me engaged and further ignites my passion for the engineering profession.

What is the biggest challenge civil engineers face today?

Our nation’s infrastructure is reaching the end of its lifespan. Infrastructure is the foundation that connects the nation’s businesses, communities, and people, driving our economy, improving our quality of life, and ensuring our public health and safety. 

 As we move towards economic recovery from COVID-19, Civil Engineers will play a pivotal role in updating our infrastructure. Engineers are the experts in Sustainable Design, and will need to become advocates for engineering projects that have a clear economic, societal and environmental benefit.

Give us your best 2-3 sentence piece of advice for the next generation of civil engineers

Serve as much as possible in volunteer leadership roles because it will help you work through your leadership style early in your career. Learn the value of networking. In engineering, our network is our net worth. Work in teams as much as you can, doing so will teach you to communicate effectively.

What is your favorite holiday?

Christmas

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Anything outdoors – hiking, skiing and youth sports with the kids.
