“The Future is Now” CECON Registration Opens

“The Future is Now” CECON Registration Opens

Author: John N. Mudd PE | ASCE Texas Section CECON Senior Co-Chair

May 2023

Ahh, the future is drawing near!  As the Senior Co-Chair of the 2023 CECON Conference, I want to provide some updates on how things are progressing as we move closer to September.

We have been working diligently to make this year’s conference one for the books.  As we continue to build on the steam generated from CECON 2022, I am happy to announce that we have partnered with additional ASCE Institute Chapters for 2023.  As we welcome the Geotechnical, Structural, Transportation & Development, and Environmental & Water Resources Institute Chapters into the fold, this year’s conference will now provide five distinct tracks that will be dedicated not only to CECON as a whole but to each of the partnering institutes.  When CECON was originally conceived, our forefathers envisioned this type of communal involvement.

As of April 1, the Programs portal has officially closed.  The CECON Programs Committee, led by Andrew Domke PE and Carlos Balderrama PE, received a record number of submissions this year.  Through their team’s hard work, they have officially narrowed the field down and have completed the roster of speakers that will participate in our breakout sessions.  The depth and variety of topics provided this year will have something for everyone!  The committee is also hard at work pulling together our Keynote Speakers and Panelists.  I can tell you that we have some great keynote presentations that will help to enlighten us on the future of Engineering as well as help us to look back at some of our history.  Some of the highlights include Ms. Eva Lerner-Lam, M. NAE, M. ASCE, M. SAE, F.ITE, the Founder and Owner of Palisades Consulting Group, Inc.  Ms. Lerner-Lam will be speaking on ASCE’s Future World Vision and how we as Engineers are envisioning the future of our infrastructure.  We also have Mr. Chet Garner, the creator and host of the widely popular Daytripper series.  If you have not experienced Chet’s knowledge of Texas, you are in for a treat!

We are working to finalize our ever-popular TxDOT and Legislative panels, as well as our Public Works Panel.  More to come as we fill the rest of these panels with leaders in our industry.

Early Registration will be opening on May 1 and will run till August 1.  Take advantage of the early discounted rate!  If you have any questions, please be sure to reach out to any of your local branch sections for details.

The portal for Exhibitors and Sponsors is open, and we have already been filling spots in our exhibit halls.  As of the end of April, we have 50% of spots filled.  They are going fast, so act now if you still need to sign up!

Remember, that by joining us at CECON 2023 as an attendee, collaborator, exhibitor, speaker, or sponsor, you also support the ASCE Texas community of offerings like the annual Student Symposium, Texas Infrastructure Report Card, ASCE Texas Legislative Drive-In, Leadership Development Weekend, Texas Civil Engineer magazine, and much more.

The CECON 2023 Planning Committee and ASCE Texas Section Board of Direction would like to thank our membership for supporting ASCE Texas Section programing. The success of our flagship annual conference allows us to provide outstanding programming throughout the year. All these opportunities make a difference for so many civil engineers. We are proud to offer this amazing slate of programs and resources to help us realize that THE FUTURE IS NOW! Thanks, and we will see everyone in San Marcos on September 20! So what are you waiting for? Go to TexasCECON.org to find out more about program sessions and events. Registration is now open.
