The ASCE Texas Section Board of Direction members were asked to fill out a questionnaire so that the Section’s members might get to know them a little better on a personal level. These are VP of Technical Affairs Julie Jones’ answers.

When did you first get involved with ASCE at any level (student chapter, local branch, section)?

What is your favorite thing about ASCE?

The people. ASCE also pushes me outside my comfort zone at times to do or try something that I don’t feel ready to do.

What do you love the most about being a civil engineer?

I can improve my community and the world and make it a better and safer place to be/live

What is the biggest challenge civil engineers face today?

The amount of projects and shortage of engineers

Give us your best 2-3 sentence piece of advice for the next generation of civil engineers

Get to know others around you within your profession; they will help you be better and mentor you on what to do.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? What free time? 

In all actuality ASCE, mentoring students at church, or other volunteer opportunities
