ASCE San Antonio Branch Update

ASCE San Antonio Branch Update

by Taylor Dawson PE – ASCE San Antonio Branch President

February 2023

San Antonio Younger Member at Chicken N Pickle event

The ASCE San Antonio Branch has been hard at work this year with a strong focus on reviving programs impacted by the pandemic.

Some of our main goals include getting attendance back to pre-pandemic levels, bringing back our Young Members program, reengaging with the local UTSA ASCE student chapter, and improving communications with our members.

It is our desire to be the premier engineering group in our region.

GENERAL BRANCH MEETINGS

Branch meetings have started strong and have continued to build momentum since. All our meetings are “in person only” now and we have had a record attendance of 80 to 90 people at each meeting.

We have switched up the format with panels, exciting celebrity speakers, ethics Jeopardy (for our ethics credit), special visits from our Texas Section leadership, and more.

YOUNG MEMBER GROUP

The Young Members group had its fundraising golf tournament, which raised enough money to fund the groups events for the rest of the year.

The Young Members host social events every other month and will soon revive their lunch training programs. So far, they have held two very successful social events at Chicken N Pickle and Main Event.

COMMUNICATIONS

Our branch has launched a social media campaign – be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn! We are actively posting and conducting social media drives at our meetings to boost followers.

One of the biggest focuses this year is revamping our website. We are excited to announce that it should go live in March.

STUDENT OUTREACH

We have had several coordination meetings with the UTSA ASCE student chapter and are working on ways to plug them into our industry.

We have a panel scheduled where recent graduates will answer student questions relating to their transition to the “real world” and some hard hat tours of local projects.

In conclusion, the year is off to a great start. Our members are actively engaged and are the key factor that is making our events a success. If you are in the area, please drop by!
