ASCE Austin Branch Presents: Women in Civil Engineering Leadership Panel

The ASCE Austin Branch shook things up this year with the launch of its first-ever Women in Engineering Leadership Panel—and the excitement was immediate.

The event originally opened with a venue capacity of 43 seats, and every ticket sold out before a single advertisement or flyer went live. When the capacity expanded to 63 seats at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar, the extra tickets and sponsorship opportunities disappeared just as quickly—selling out the very same day.

Guests enjoyed dinner, drinks, and most importantly, an evening filled with inspiration and insight. On stage, five powerhouse leaders from across the Austin metro area shared their experiences and vision for the future of civil engineering:

  • L’Oreal Stepney – Chairwoman, Texas Water Development Board
  • Shay Ralls Roalson – Director, Austin Water
  • Genest Landry – Assistant Director, Capital Delivery Services
  • Rebecca Russo – President, Balcones Geotechnical
  • Susan Roth – Owner, Susan Roth Consulting

Adding to the energy of the evening, attendees also heard from the incoming ASCE President-Elect, Carol Haddock, bringing a national spotlight to a local stage.

Backed by a presenting sponsor and many supporting partners, the event quickly earned rave reviews. One attendee summed it up best, calling it “the most impactful event I’ve been to in a long time.”

The inaugural Women in Engineering Leadership Panel not only celebrated some of the region’s most accomplished professionals but also marked the start of a bold new tradition for Austin’s civil engineering community.
