Texas A&M ASCE Student Chapter Fall 2019 Update

Texas A&M ASCE Student Chapter Fall 2019 Update

by Cesar Martinez, Texas A&M University ASCE Student Chapter President

In the Fall 2019 semester, Texas A&M’s ASCE Student Chapter had the pleasure of hosting several civil engineering companies at our general meetings, representing the many flavors comprising our industry. Companies we hosted included L.A. Fuess, Westwood, Manson Construction, RPS Group, CobbFendly, and Freese & Nichols.

Shortly after summer begun, we were all very pleased to learn that Dr. Jean-Louis Briaud, one of our very own Geotechnical Professors, had been elected to be ASCE’s President-Elect-Elect, later to become ASCE’s President. We could not have thought of a better candidate to lead ASCE, as he is a perfect demonstration of what it means to be an Aggie through his core values which are excellence, integrity, leadership, loyalty, respect, and selfless service.

Another exciting achievement from our Fall 2019 semester was our second career fair! We had a total of 40 companies come to our career fair that across two days. This was a great success for both students and employers. Our goal was to have enough variety to accommodate as many disciplines within civil engineering as possible while trying to keep it small enough to stay personal, and I think that we achieved just that.
