Southeast Texas Branch Engages Members with BBQ & Tailgate Events

Southeast Texas Branch Engages Members with BBQ & Tailgate Events

The Southeast Texas Branch has been busy this fall. As a small branch, we realized we would need help funding events to engage their members, so we took action and applied for a Region 6 grant. We were happy to learn we received the grant this year and greatly appreciate the Region 6 Governors for helping us fund fun events, like our Back-to-School BBQ in September and Lamar Tailgate in October.

Back-to-School BBQ & Officer Installation

Our September BBQ event to welcome students back to school as well as induct the Southeast Texas Branch Officers was a great success. We had approximately 50 people in attendance with 10 of those being professionals, and four being Lamar University professors. Students in attendance ranged from Grad Students and seniors to sophomores, and there was a lot of interaction between the professionals and students. We also were excited to see older students discussing ASCE events with younger students.  Below are some photos of the event.

Lamar Tailgate

In October, we were excited to see that our Lamar Tailgate event was again well attended. This annual event got its start last year, and it was so popular that we brought it back this year. We had approximately 25 people in attendance with 6 of those being professionals, and the rest being students.  Like at the September Back-To-School BBQ, we saw a lot of interaction between the professionals and students, this time over games like washer boards and good tailgating food. Below are photos of the event.

The Southeast Texas Branch greatly appreciate the support of the Region 6 Governors to help us fund these events to spark and maintain interest in ASCE.
