Section President Susan Roth PE, PMP Shares 2019-2020 Goals

Section President Susan Roth PE, PMP Shares 2019-2020 Goals

It is a special honor and privilege to serve as your President for 2019-2020! The incoming slate of Board members and committee chairs are an amazing group of leaders committed to serving ASCE Texas Section. I would like to thank our outgoing President, Art Clendenin PE, for his leadership this past year. He did an outstanding job leading our Board and steering our organization in a positive direction.

During this next ASCE year, we will continue to advance the Texas Section’s strategic plan with the goal of developing our civil engineers and serving as trusted leaders in our communities. My primary goal is to focus on what I refer to as the ‘3Ms’:  Member Benefits, Membership Growth and Mentoring Programs.

ASCE Texas Section strives to provide value and beneficial services to our members through a number of venues, including monthly webinars, technical institute meetings, the Legislative Drive-In at the Texas Capitol, Texas Infrastructure Report Card, annual ASCE Texas Student Symposium for student chapters, leadership development training for Branch/Section officers, CECON networking events and more! Check out our calendar for details on all of our upcoming events. Also, please follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter for event recaps, upcoming events and the latest ASCE Texas Section information. We have a number of exciting programs and events lined up for this year, and I encourage you to take an active role in your local Branch, as well as the Texas Section!

Membership growth is vital to our organization. We will be developing a list of government entities and engineering consulting firms to reach out to for feedback on ways that ASCE Texas Section can partner and provide additional value. For those members currently active in ASCE, I need your help to serve as a champion in your organization for increased membership and company support.

Regarding mentoring programs, we encourage our Branches to initiate Civil Engineer (CE) Clubs in your local high schools. The Dallas Branch has two successful CE Clubs in its area and is available as a resource and model for other Branches. We’re also interested in identifying mentoring needs of the Younger Member Committees, as well as identifying Student Chapters needing Practitioner Advisors. Please let me know if you’re interested in getting involved in mentoring programs. You can easily get in touch with me at [email protected] or (512) 796-6692.

We’re also kicking off the next publication of the Infrastructure Report Card, which will include 17 infrastructure categories. We need your help with reviewing and providing comments on categories within your field of expertise! If interested in joining this important committee, please contact Mark Boyd PhD, PE, D.WRE at [email protected] or (214) 770-6253.

Thank you for your continued support, and please don’t hesitate to let me know what you think will make us even better! I want all civil engineers in both the public and private arena to feel welcome to be a part of our amazing organization. Also, please feel free to let me know your Branch needs and where the Section can continue to help in order to keep our organization strong.
