Meet Jonathan Brower PE, Associate, L.A. Fuess Partners

The ASCE Texas Section Board of Direction members were asked to fill out a questionnaire so that the Section’s members might get to know them a little better on a personal level. These are Director-at-Large Jonathan Brower PE’s answers.
When did you first get involved with ASCE at any level (student chapter, local branch, section)?
Texas A&M Student Chapter in 2009
What is your favorite thing about ASCE?
The family-style atmosphere and everyone’s drive and desire to give back
What’s your most memorable project?
Baylor Scott and White Admin Building! It features a special level of post-tensioned concrete girders that help transfer a grid of 30’x30’ column bays to 60’x60’. Definitely the coolest project I’ve worked on yet!
What do you love the most about being a civil engineer?
Shaping the built environment and being able to construct buildings and spaces that improve our quality of life
Give us three words to describe what a civil engineer does
Collaborate, Anticipate, Create
Give us your best 2-3 sentence piece of advice for the next generation of civil engineers
Be the one that takes action. So many things happen or don’t happen because of our unwillingness to step up and lead. Keep us moving forward by getting involved in the discussions going on in your workplace, your ASCE Branch, and your community – and staying involved!
What is your go-to calculator?
TI-36x PRO
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love running and exploring new parts of the places I visit on foot
What was your high school nickname?
I had a few: Dr. Brower, Brower, and JBrow
What would your superpower be?
Definitely teleportation, I can’t stand long drives and long plane flights, but I love it once I reach my destination
What is your favorite band?
Fall Out Boy (but like 2003-2008 Fall Out Boy)
Mountains or beach?
Beaches with giant mountain backdrops!
Give us your best (clean) joke
Did you hear about the two guys that stole a calendar? Ya, they each got six months.
