A Time to Plan

A Time to Plan

This month, the Infrastructure Report Card (IRC) Committee is gearing up to start planning the next report card update. The updated report card is scheduled to be released in 2021.

Approximately every four years, ASCE Texas Section develops, updates and releases a report card for Texas.  The report assesses the physical condition and needed investments for infrastructure improvements. The report and pocket cards educate and aid our policy makers in identifying investments needs for infrastructure. ASCE Texas Section members are the advisors sought to provide feedback, provide testimony and evaluate policy ensuring health, safety, and welfare of the general public.

The 2017 report card release was an important tool for the government affairs committee. Several of the infrastructure needs and deficiencies identified in the seven categories of the report card were addressed in the last legislative session with the passage of bills and reauthorizations. ASCE members volunteered their time over the course of 18 months to collect and evaluate data, write sections of the report and review the report.

There are 16 major categories that can be considered for evaluation. The committee will determine the categories to update and work to collect the data and grade the infrastructure based on predetermined metrics.
