Description

Last August Hurricane Harvey caused extreme flooding across Houston and other areas of southeast Texas. In light of the widespread damage and after experiencing months-long recovery, members of the Texas Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) developed a series of comprehensive policy recommendations to better manage flood risk during extreme storms. To learn more about these recommendations, please join us on August 15th for the unveiling of the report ““Addressing Flood Risk: A Path Forward for Texas After Hurricane Harvey”. Topics will include lessons learned and the need for a more comprehensive approach to future flood risk management.

The event will include:

  • Lunch
  • Opening remarks
  • A discussion about the current approach to flood risk management in Texas and ASCE's recommended policy changes
  • Q&A session with the audience (the authors of the report will also be available after the event to answer any additional questions)

Agenda

Get out and vote!

On August 25th, Harris County needs you to head to the polls and vote “yes” on Proposition A. This bond measure will dedicated $2.5 billion in bonds to fund flood-mitigation projects. Remember a “yes” vote on August 25th will ensure that the Harris County Flood District can fund critical projects. Visit ASCE’s “Click & Connect” page to read background on this critical vote.
