Join the Texas Section and ASCE Student Chapters from the Texas-Mexico Student Conference in early March for the 4th annual Student Symposium and the 2nd annual combined competitions for steel bridge and concrete canoe.

In order to participate in any of these activities, you must be part of participating schools and attend the conference.  


Concrete Frisbee


Each school has the maximum of 4 participants.


Competition Frisbee Rules and Information


Each team needs to fabricate 5 Frisbees with the same concrete mixture and design.

1.     One Frisbee, picked at random, will be selected for inspection

2.     The other 4 Frisbees will be thrown during the distance and accuracy test.


Design and Construction Rules


1.     The diameter of the Frisbee must be greater than 8 inches but no more than 12 inches

2.     The height of the Frisbee must not be greater than 2.5 inches.

3.     No prepackaged or pre mixture concrete can be used, the Frisbee mixture must be at least 60% hydraulic Portland cement.

4.     Reinforcement (mesh) may be used for the Frisbee but it must not be visible. In the event the Frisbee breaks and the mesh shows, no points will be taken off.




1.     Each team must have a 24”x36” poster that includes:

a.     School’s name

b.     Mix design

c.      The construction methods and materials used

2.     Aesthetics on Frisbee and poster will be judged by professionals


1.     Durability (20 pts., 5 each):

o   Frisbees losing 20% of its total weight will be disqualified.

o   Each Frisbee will be thrown one time.

o   Durability formula:


                  = (Weight of Frisbee/Weight Frisbee after thrown) X 5


2.     Aesthetics (20 pts.):

o   Will be judged before Frisbee is thrown.

3.     Distance:

o   Two of the Frisbee will be thrown and the longest scored will count toward the final score.

o   The Frisbee must land within the boundaries set on the throwing area and maintain at least 80% of its initial weight.

4.     Accuracy (30 pts., 15 each):

o   Two of the Frisbee will be thrown.

o   Participants will throw the Frisbee into the designated marked areas. The points will be counted if any part of the Frisbee is touching the marked areas. It will not count if parts of the Frisbee are within the marked area, it must be the Frisbee itself.

o   Accuracy Formula:


                     =[Target length/(target length +distance of target to disk)] X 15


5.     In case of a tie, the poster will determine the winner.
