Session: ASCE Government Relations & Public Relations Overview
When: December 19 from 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM CT
Where: Virtual (Zoom)
Description: Public Relations University offers sections and branches an introduction to public relations and working with the media, including a focus on the importance of messaging and the principles of communication. Government Relations University provides an introduction to the materials ASCE has to offer for help with lobbying legislators and getting elected officials to your meetings, among other topics. This session will dive into each of these advocacy methods in addition to going over upcoming ASCE projects and how they can benefit the ASCE Texas Section.
Speaker: Kevin Longley, Director of Media Relations & Public Affairs for ASCE
Kevin has led media campaigns for the Society’s major advocacy initiatives, including the Report Card for America’s Infrastructure, the Failure to Act series, ASCE Convention and OPAL programs, and the ongoing Engineering and Public Works Roadshow over the last four years. In his role, Kevin also communicates with members of the media seeking information or interviews with members, preparing spokespeople for these opportunities, and creating communications plans when the Society faces an influx of media requests (particularly when an infrastructure-related catastrophe has taken place). Prior to ASCE, Kevin served as a producer for Sirius XM’s Fantasy Sports Radio and NASCAR Radio channels, creating and planning programming for more than two dozen shows across the two channels.
This session is free for ASCE members.
