Infrastructure Week

May 15 - 19, 2017

It’s #TimeToBuild

Infrastructure Week (May 15 - 19) is a national week of education and advocacy that brings American businesses, workers, elected leaders, and everyday citizens together with one message: It’s #TimeToBuild.

One simple way to participate is tell Congress it's #TimeToBuild via email. Please take a moment to write to your Member of Congress to show your support for improving America's roads, bridges, rail, ports, airports, water and sewer systems, the energy grid, and more. Visit this webpage and type in your address, and the organizers of Infrastructure Week will provide your representative's email plus a suggested letter that you can use or edit. ASCE is a member of the Infrastructure Week Steering Committee.

2017 Report Card for Texas' Infrastructure Postponed

The release of Texas’ 2017 Infrastructure Report Card has been postponed. ASCE Texas Section’s Infrastructure Report Card Committee made this difficult decision on May 3 after much deliberation. The committee is currently exploring options for new release events, contact Executive Director Lindsay O'Leary PE, LEED AP with your suggestions.

Texas Civil Engineer Magazine Survey

The Texas Section is conducting an evaluation of Texas Civil Engineer magazine, issued quarterly by email and limited printings to Section membership. The Committee is seeking feedback on improving readership and communication channels.

Please take our five question survey and help guide the future of Texas Section publications. There will also be opportunities to fill out this survey on paper at your next Branch meeting. Please choose the best format for your response. You only have to fill out one or the other.

May Webinar: Drainage Infrastructure Analytics - Identifying the Worst First

May 9, 2017 | Noon - 1 PM CT | 1 PDH

SWEET (Storm Water Enhanced Evaluation Tool) is a computerized GIS toolbar that allows a non-political & transparent process to identify the “Worst First” areas. The toolbar uses information from several databases to analyze & prioritize the need for stormsewer drainage improvements. The Design Event Adequacy (DEA) analysis automates the process to calculate the flows at different locations for different storm events, enabling the City to pinpoint the inadequacy of just one or more components within the 33 million feet of interconnected drainage system.

Dallas Branch Earth Day Texas Celebration

On April 21 and 22, 2017 ASCE Dallas Branch hosted an exhibition table at Earth Day Texas.   This three-day free event took place in Fair Park in Dallas, TX and is the largest event of its kind in the world.   Earth Day Texas brings together environmental organizations, businesses, academic institutions, government agencies, speakers, interactive programming, and subject matter experts along with live music and sustainable beer and food pavilions.

ASCE Dallas’ 2017 exhibition was targeted at teaching children about the importance of protecting and restoring watersheds. Members also encouraged them to investigate civil engineering as a profession and explained how civil engineers make a difference in the world, especially by practicing sustainable design.
