Rachel Hayden wins national ASCE Entrepreneur Award

Rachel Hayden PE former ASCE Dallas Branch President, has won the 2015 Civil Engineering Entrepreneur of the Year Award.  Rachel was selected for her outstanding entrepreneurial efforts with Hayden Consultants, Inc. who recently celebrated 15 years in business.  Rachel is the president and founder of Hayden Consultants, Inc.    

 

Hayden Consultants is an engineering partner to Texas municipalities, state agencies, transit agencies and private developers that was founded in 2000 by Rachel Hayden as a woman-owned, historically underutilized, disadvantaged business enterprise with a staff of one.  The firm now employs 22 people and provides a diverse range of engineering services.  To accommodate the firm’s growth, Hayden Consultants relocated in October 2014 to a larger, 5,900-square-foot office within The Meadows Building complex on Upper Greenville.

 

This award was established by the ASCE Committee on Leadership and Management to recognize entrepreneurs who create successful private-sector organizations that employ civil engineers and/or expand the civil engineering horizon.  The award is given annually to an owner, founder, principal, or manager of a private company who was primarily responsible for the recent performance of the company, must be an ASCE member in good standing, and preferably a licensed professional engineer.  

 

Qualifications were judged on the following criteria:

1.    Success Standard - set and achieved for themselves and their business

2.    Character and Professional Integrity

3.    Community and Culture - How has they contributed or given back to community? What "people-initiatives" has the nominee sponsored within their company? How have these initiatives impacted the company's ability to empower and retain employees?

4.    Innovative Approaches and Future Plans - Company history; Source of inspiration; Risks taken; Obstacles overcome; Business model that demonstrates sustained capacity for innovation and growth; Competitive points of differentiation; Vision for future growth
